Day 10 has seen the fleet repeat the distance made good for a fourth consecutive day, rowing a combined total of over 1200nm towards the finish, 42nm per crew. This sustained high mileage has meant that several crews are coming close to the record books. The all female pair of Annie Januszewski and Melanie King on Explore are just 14nm behind the current British record for a crossing of the Atlantic and should they row 50nm on day 11 they will be ahead of the record.

In stead of the sporadic changes of position seen in the first few days of the race, crews are now jostling locally for position. So now after 10 days at sea Charlie Pitcher – who celebrates his 47^th birthday today, continues to have a slender lead over Karukera and what better way to celebrate you birthday than leading the fleet in the Atlantic Ocean Rowing Race. While the pairs of Patience, Reason Why, Roberto Coin and Dream Maker continue to sit 40nm behind the leaders having maintained steady progress over the last 3 days.

Britannia III are now level with the current record, having made a further 75nm towards he finish through day 10. Should Britannia III break the record, the skipper on board, Ian Couch will have rowed three oceans, a feat managed by just six people worldwide, and hold the speed record for two of them (having claimed the Indian Ocean record last year on board Audeamus). Ian will have rowed race distances in excess of 8000nm in under 130 days at sea, a truly remarkable achievement.
